Despite ongoing fear, concern and empty store shelves because of the Covid-19 virus, our local food communities have come together remarkably to provide healthy, local food options to members of the community during this crisis. These local producers have emerged as an excellent alternative or supplement to grocery stores for many food essentials.
Now more than ever, our local food producers are demonstrating their value and continued dedication to serving our communities’ local, healthy, fresh foods.
Local Pickup/Delivery Options
For more than a decade, PEC has worked with area residents (like you!) and local farmers to encourage a sustainable local food network that is supportive of farmland conservation and good land management. Please consider buying directly from local farms and businesses whenever possible to continue fostering this investment.

PEC produces three Buy Fresh Buy Local guides which list farms who sell veggies, fruit, meat, dairy and other locally grown products directly to consumers:
- Northern Piedmont guide [Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange & Rappahannock Counties]
- Charlottesville Area guide [Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa & Nelson Counties]
- Loudoun guide
Or, find local farmers and producers in your area using this Buy Fresh Buy Local clickable online map. The Covid-19 crisis is changing quickly, so please check a farm’s website or reach out to them to find out if they’re offering delivery or pickup options.
Happening Now (in the community)
At PEC, Dana Melby and Pete Walton are working rapidly to expand production at PEC’s Community Farm at Roundabout Meadows to provide more fresh fruit and vegetables to those in need. But, there are so many more stories. Communities throughout the Piedmont are really coming together and innovating, and I wanted to share some of the great work being done right now:
Please email or call me if you have ideas or suggestions about ways that I can be of assistance over the coming weeks and months. Thank you for supporting your local farmers during this critical time and thank you to our farmers for your continued resiliency and dedication in providing healthy, local, fresh food to our community.
